Investigation and Creation
Close collaboration is maintained in the development of Filtralite filter media with academic institutions and research centers in Norway and around the world. Numerous master's and doctorate theses, studies, and articles have been written on various facets of using Filtralite to clean wastewater and drinkable water.
Characteristics
Clay is burned at a temperature of approximately 1200 degrees Celsius to create expanded clay pellets, which are then crushed and sieved to create filter media known as filtralite. Crushing the material reveals a significant amount of its porous nature. The aggregate size range is 0–20 mm, and the dry particle densities are 500–1,600 kg/m2. Flexible, "tailor-made" materials for certain uses are available in filterlite. There is very little acid solubility, and no hazardous chemicals are released by the aggregates. Filtralite exhibits strong resistance to impact and abrasion despite its large porosity and low density.
